Brief History of Reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing system. It was re-discovered in the early 1900's by Dr Mikao Usui, hence we have Usui Reiki. Dr Usui was a student at a Tendal Buddhist school. He also studied many other forms of religion, philosophy, psychology and fortune telling. The Reiki energy and symbols were given to Dr Usui while he was meditating at Mount Kurama in Japan, during a twenty one day fast. Reiki is pronounced “Ray-Key”, and involves the transfer of the universal life force or energy through the healer to the recipient. This is done through different hand positions, on or above the body.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki re-energises a person’s energy system and brings it back into balance. We all have our own invisible energy field and energy centres. It is when these energy centres become unbalanced, it begins to effect our well being, our physical and mental condition. Stress from a job or family life, illness or current life situation, are all factors that can effect out health. This is where Reiki comes in.

Reiki works on all levels of being, the physical,  mental, emotional and spiritual. Reiki supports all forms of treatment, both orthodox and complimentary, but Reiki does not replace conventional medication or treatments. Reiki treats the body as a whole, but it is not an instant cure or fix to a problem. It is though, the start of your healing path and this is one of the main reasons why people are drawn to Reiki.
